Hello, I had my Surgery, 19 days ago, Realize Band. I'd been losing consistanly, almost daily. The past 4-5 days, I seem to have hit a wall fluctuating up and down 1-2 pounds. I'm getting all my protein and water in. Is this common?

Hi, Dr. Abkin did my lap band surgery over 10 years ago and I went through all the phases. Dr. Abkin changed my entire life. The first several months are tough because unlike the bypass the weight loss is slower and more steady which you don't realize until later is better for you. It's healthier and your skin will respond better to a slow steady weight loss. I am a single mom that had and still have a challenging job so I always had an excuse even after the band that I had no time to exercise. After I hit my "wall" I knew that I needed to integrate some type of exercise into my life. I joined Curves. Loved it. The weight started to fall off and I stayed on a liquid diet. Curves took the thinking out of exercise for me. It took 30 minutes and I saw results within the first few weeks. The campbell soups that you can heat up and drink right from the can are awesome and fillings. The chicken soup with stars was my favorite. If I can help at all or you need advice feel free to contact me. Not sure where you post pictures on this site but I would love to show you where I started and a current photo. I have never posted on here before but I decided this year it was time to give back and help others if I can through the same challenges I experienced. My email is bernadettebonny@gmail.com Regards, Bernadette

Hi! you're one of the most recent posts on this chat. I'm 15 days post-op and feeling pretty good except I'm having trouble introducing soft foods. I could not wait for my first scrambled eggs and that was a stomach disaster; ached all day and felt like they were up in my chest. I drank water and protein drink all day until late I had a little cottage cheese. That felt okay. The next food I tried (days later) was some mashed fish with some mayo. Again, rock in gut. I'm discouraged. I'm only eating Phase 2 foods and some cottage cheese and applesauce! What was your experience? I'm steadily losing...a little slower than in the beginning...but I am down 20 lbs. as of today.

I agree. Do you know of any forums where people do respond. I am 5 week post gastric bypass and would love to talk with others going through the same and trying to figure it all out.

@mags How are you doing? I'm almost 4 months post op. I'd be happy to chat with you if you'd like. I would do email merckl2008@gmail.com since it seems not much goes on here. Laura

Hi all I'm new to the forums but I had my surgery (capella procedure) about years ago. I've since (of course lol) hit a wall, I just joined a gym but nothing has happened yet and it seems like if I eat even a little unless it's like salad or yogurt I gain. I'm trying to learn more about what I should be doing nutrition wise but am wondering if I need to see the Dr. again? Anyone have any recommendations? I'm willing to talk or try to help anyone through anything I can however I only really have experience with the RnY and the Capella

My fellow post op patients, Hi, my name's Lisa; i had RnY about 71/2 years ago, performed by my hero, Dr. Abkin. post op, I was successful at achieving my goal weight in 2007. however, as Myoldself, puts it, i have HIT A WALL. I have broken some rules by not allowing enough time between eating and drinking fluids, eating portions a little too large and having a routine of eating "junk" and drinking alcohol every night. I still exercise 3-4x a week and eat 3 healthy meals. portion size is bigger but i'm not sure at this point how much i should eat; at night, at home, alone, I have replaced binging with 2 alcoholic drinks a night, with small snacks. I have quit binging on huge amts of food and smoking but the old me cannot stop filling the void with other things. I have gained about 15 lbs. I am very ashamed and dont want to go back to the old me. This is a cry for help. I will call the office today and talk to someone. but in the meantime I want to share here and ask for support if there is any. Sorry if i'm scaring any new patients but there are many post op ppl that i have met and spoken to over the years and these are things that could happen. I offer my support to the newbies and anyone else who would like to vent. Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you soon. Wishing everyone a HEALTHY 2013, with joy and success!
